An 18th-century porcelain ewer and tray in the Tournai style - Lot 116
An 18th-century porcelain ewer and tray in the Tournai style, decorated with landscapes in shades of purple on a royal blue background, enhanced with gold flowers. The main decoration depicts a view of the town of Hal (inscription at the bottom in the river). Above, a landscape with a castle at the edge of the woods. The tray is decorated with two landscapes, one depicting a cottage at the entrance to the village, the other a wooded landscape. Apocryphal mark with gold swords. A similar piece of Tournai porcelain is found, a mustard pot, more precisely illustrated on page 193 of the book "Tournai Porcelain, History of a Manufacture 1750-1891" by Jean Lemaire, La renaissance du livre. Good condition, however, we note the presence of a firing shrinkage around the upper end of the handle. It may have been retouched while hot during demolding. We did not detect any overpainting upon UV examination. Detailed photos and video upon request. Height: 21 cm. Diameter: 17 cm.
