Oscar NEMON (1906-1985). The Tatoon or Tatoun dog. Life-size bronze with a very beautiful green exterior patina. Valsuani founder. Mentioned by Princess Marie Bonaparte in her book Topsy dealing with her eponymous chow chow, Tatoun (February 1931-October 1931) would be none other than the only surviving puppy from the litter of Yofi, Sigmund Freud's second chow-chow who had been born to her offered by the Princess. Tatoun is one of Topsy's parents. This sculpture is a tribute to the strong bonds of friendship between the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and Princess Marie Bonaparte and to their common passion for chow chows. Oscar Nemon made a sculpture of the dog Topsy in 1938 which was housed in the Ashmolean museum in Oxford. We find in the literature illustrations of the Princess and Topsy but also in the company of her friend Sigmund Freud. Oscar Nemon, British sculptor of Croatian origin is notably known for his sculptures representing personalities such as Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher but also Sigmund Freud. Height: 72 cm.
