Charles CATTEAU (1880–1966). An exceptional Boch Keramis sto - Lot 33
Charles CATTEAU (1880–1966). An exceptional Boch Keramis stoneware vase decorated with a frieze depicting bison in motion and at rest. This vase, of remarkable craftsmanship, also features two horizontal friezes decorated with a series of discs, both above and below the animal motif. This detail is not found on any reference model. We can assume that this is a unique variation of the famous Model 1401. This vase also bears the handwritten signature of Charles Catteau, along with the calligraphic markings B.F.K. and D.1401. Related work: This model, which combines African and animal motifs, is comparable to a stoneware vase of identical shape, this time decorated with elephants and bearing the inscription “Hommage à la faïencerie Keramis — To the illustrious English ceramist Wedgwood” (Source: Charles Catteau Strépy Thieu 2006 Brochure—Art Deco Ceramics, Marc Pairon). Height: 41 cm. Provenance: Former collection of Marc Pairon. Resale royalty applicable.
