A pair of panels from a two-part piece made of walnut carved - Lot 80
A pair of panels from a two-part piece made of walnut carved in bas-relief, adorned with green marble plaques, featuring a design of nymphs, sphinxes, and allegorical figures trampling on weapons: Peace on the left, holding an olive branch in one hand and a torch in the other, with which she is burning a shield. Victory on the right, brandishing a closed royal crown surmounted by a fleur-de-lis. Île-de-France, late 16th century (one marble plaque is cracked; ventilation holes on the back) The allegory of Peace is likely inspired by Etienne Delaune’s engraving, dated before 1573 and re-engraved in 1575.
Dimensions: 73 x 30.5 cm
Holes from former padding on the reverse
Expert: Cabinet Fligny, Paris.
