RAPHAEL (1483-1520). After. - Lot 142
RAPHAEL (1483-1520). After. The School of Athens. Early 19th-century oil on canvas (possibly late 18th-century?) reproducing the original Vatican fresco by Raphael. Related work: The version copied after Raphael by Philotée-François Duflos circa 1741. The latter, measuring 5 meters by 8 meters, was exhibited at the Lille Museum in 1849 and then transferred to the Hôtel de Ville in 1893 before disappearing in the fire of April 23, 1916. A notarized letter from 1927 is attached to the painting, discussing the Duflos version, which was destroyed during the bombing. Dimensions: 55 x 85 cm.
