Jules Ernest CRAN (1876-1926). Large luminist study depictin - Lot 91
Jules Ernest CRAN (1876-1926). Large luminist study depicting a resting lady seated on her rattan armchair, accompanied by her dog. On her left, the river Sambre reflecting the setting sun. This is in fact a representation of the artist's mother, Madame Joséphine Leroy (wife François Cran). We enclose a copy of a notarized deed dated July 29, 1943 in the office of Maître Pierre Maillard, in which witnesses certify the painting as being by Jules Cran, having seen the artist sketch the work on several occasions. They also declare that the subject represents Madame François Cran, the artist's mother, on her property. Provenance: Artist's family. Former collection of Mr. and Mrs. Vith Hennuy de Thuin. Belgian private collection. Important oil on canvas, unsigned and still sketched at the hand and bottom of the dress. Dimensions : 235 x 185 cm.
