Gouache on paper depicting fishermen.
Signed on the right.
Expert : Cabinet Ansas-Papillon-Léry. Paris".
Provenance: Former collection of Madame Simone de Medem (1906-1989), née Mortoir and wife of Baron Nicolas de Medem, then private collection of Madame F by inheritance.
As ambassadors, Baron de Medem and his wife frequently visited Asia, Hong Kong and China.
Madame F, born in 1934 and a close friend of the couple, inherited the two works after the death of Madame Simone de Medem-Mortoir in 1989. The works lined the first-floor landing of the couple's apartment in Rue de Livourne, Ixelles.
We enclose a sworn statement by Mrs. F, owner of the two works, signed by Lin Fengmian, attesting that she formally remembers the presence of the two watercolors in the couple's home as far back as the early 1980s, when they began dating.
We also enclose a copy of a notarized estate inventory dated February 1, 1990, on which line 95 refers to the two works described at the time as follows: Two watercolors "figures and birds".
Dimensions: 39 x 36 cm.
